Gremar is the fourth planet of the Dis system in the Hades Gamma cluster. The planet has largely been ignored by every major government in terms of colonization, although many attempts and surveys were made over the millennia: in 2184 CE, a Migrant Fleet survey team, escorted by the 12th Explorer Platoon, surveyed and explored the planet as per the New Home program to investigate the possibility of colonization by the quarians, but the planet failed to meet any of the requirements and so it was dismissed as a possibility. The Republic of Rannoch petitioned the Systems Coalition to use the planet's massive ammonia deposits to produce fertilizer for their agriculture industries in 2203 CE, as the planet fell inside Coalition territory, and while Gremar has continued to be mined for ammonia ever since, attempts to settle the planet haven't been on the table or seriously considered. Terraforming potential has largely been dismissed due to the costly nature of terraforming an entire planet to be habitable, and the cost-benefit ratio was simply deemed not to be worth the expenditure in the long run, especially with so many other habitable worlds waiting to be colonized instead.

Gremar is an icy world with a thin atmosphere of carbon dioxide and krypton. Its surface is mainly composed of frozen ammonia with deposits of tin and other light metals. When exposed to sunlight, Gremar's ammonia can melt, forming equatorial seas of the toxic chemical. This allowed a profusion of simple fungus and lichens to evolve in the low-energy environment. A by-product of their metabolism causes them to glow very faintly. While the light of an individual is insignificant, large patches seem to reinforce the light of one another, and are visible from space.
