Gozu District

The Gozu District was one of the many administrative districts on Omega. When Mining Station Cruciea, the small city on the asteroid that would eventually be named Omega in 700 CE, was built, the Gozu district was originally six districts that the city was split into, with the administrative system established as the mining city continued to expand, leading to segmented communities across the space station. The Gozu district itself was very close to the central business area, the Dyuko District, where it housed numerous store fronts and commercial housing, largely consisting of apartments and suburban living areas. After the station fell to the Tuchankan Empire at the start of the Krogan Rebellions, the Gozu district was chosen to house the barracks for the 11th Warband, ousting much of the residents who lived there (those few who remained), who were kept in the nearby Kima District and placed into camps. When Drecuns Tanculus liberated the station a century later in 800 CE, the barracks in Gozu was repurposed for use by his peacekeepers, and later his syndicate, and the district as a whole was heavily repopulated. Over time, Omega was further split into more districts, eventually totaling 45, with at least two thirds of the Gozu district's territory split amongst 17 newer ones. As centuries passed, the Gozu district only became more and more rundown, as did the others, although unlike the fate of many districts that slowly became abandoned due to turf wars and mass evictions due to exorbitant rent rates, Gozu continued to hold a steady population, and reabsorbed part of its old territory when it subsumed the Ako District in 1633 CE. Numerous PMCs would ultimately establish extortion rackets over the many districts of Omega, shaking down residents for protection fees in order to serve as a rag-tag law-enforcement-for-hire, and Gozu was no different, with the district falling within Eclipse territory by 1849 CE, although after a short turf war with the nascent Blue Suns in 2171 CE, the latter took over this role, and the Gozu district became part of their territory. Despite the extortion and protection fees, Gozu residents felt safer under PMC control, with the Blue Suns remaining true to their word and maintaining strict control over the district, with armed patrols a daily sight.

The Gozu district was met with a major crisis in 2185 CE when it was suddenly hit with a highly virulent, high mortality outbreak of plague that mercilessly tore through the population. When reports reached Aria T'Loak of the plague, she immediately ordered her syndicate to quarantine the district, sealing it off from the rest of Omega. Unbeknownst to anyone else, including even Aria herself, the plague was not a natural occurrence, being a bio-engineered plague built by the Collectors to deliberately target non-humans and spread through the district using vorcha as proxies, namely vorcha of the Blood Pack's Omega chapter, who wanted to rebel against their krogan masters by seizing territory for themselves, and the Collectors gave them the plague to spread through the district to test it, with the benefit to the vorcha being that they could cripple the Blue Suns and overrun the district in days, as vorcha were immune to disease. This resulted in the Gozu Mercenary War, which in addition to the plague only further deteriorated the situation in Gozu as, in addition to people dying of plague by the dozens, they now had a war in the streets to worry about as those few Blue Suns who hadn't contracted the plague yet, mostly its human members, desperately held on to their territory against the vorcha tide. Fortunately, the salarian professor and former STG operative Mordin Solus, arrived and set up a clinic to combat the plague, quickly discovering a cure around the same time the Normandy Squad arrived and cut a path through Blue Suns and vorcha alike. Using the station's central ventilation controls, the cure was spread across the district, eradicating the plague and bringing an end to the vorcha attack as the krogan got wind of it and quickly reined in their rebellious slaves. Regardless, Gozu's population was hit hard by the plague and the Blue Suns were now too weak to protect it as they used to, especially after disastrous losses shortly before in the Kima Siege. This wasn't made any better when Cerberus invaded Omega a few months later, with a vanguard of adjutant creatures unleashed upon the station sowing chaos across the Gozu district as its civilians managed to survive the plague, only to be brutally transformed into more of the horrific abominations as they continued to spread: while Cerberus managed to eventually contain the creatures, much of the damage was done, with half the population of the district converted by the mutants. During the six month long Cerberus occupation of the station, Oleg Petrovsky made sure the Gozu district was one of many districts to receive relief packages, and a battalion was deployed there to maintain law and order, making way for what Petrovsky planned to be a proper law enforcement agency. Many of Petrovsky's plans for the Gozu district were dashed with Aria's invasion in 2186 CE, and with the help of the UGC, she was able to liberate the station and oust the Cerberus occupiers, with the Gozu district serving as a major staging ground during the final stage of the invasion.

After the Reaper War, Aria discovered Petrovsky's leftover plans to revitalize Omega as a whole and while she acknowledged some of the plans had merit, she dismissed much of them, leaving the Gozu district to remain as it was while encouraging more people to live there in an effort to jumpstart business once again and push the illusion that the status quo was returning to normal, despite declaring an end to Omega's lawlessness as she founded the Omega Republic, with her syndicate and the Talons reformed into a ruling government and military apparatus respectively. The Gozu district served as a battleground during the war to overthrow Aria from 2213 CE to 2221 CE, with its residents harboring OFA dissidents from Aria's forces. After the war, victor Sata T'Loak promptly founded the Alpha Republic, renaming Omega to "Alpha" in the process in a new effort to distance it from its past and begin a new future for the station, starting with a complete revitalization and modernization effort to bring Alpha into the modern era. The Gozu district would be subsequently merged with four other surrounding districts and became the Gozu theme.
