- "It thinks anybody in the room is the Shadow Broker. I really wish it wouldn't call me that."
- — Feron referring to Glyph when talking to Commander Shepard in 2185 CE.
Operative Feron Huul was an information trafficker and intelligence operative who worked for both the 89th and 90th Shadow Brokers, betraying the former and later helping the latter in the lead up to and during the Reaper War. Born on Kahje, Feron was raised believing in the hanar religion, but despite his parents being devout believers of the Enkindlers, Feron didn't share their belief and by the time he was a teenager, he was firm atheist. When the time came to fulfill his part of Compact, he chose to volunteer as an intelligence operative for the Hanar Primacy, going through the necessary training to become a member of Amonkira's Eyes. Feron took part in numerous operations, specializing in intelligence gathering and information trafficking, maintaining a tangible network of contacts from which he protected the security and national interests of the Primacy. In 2166 CE, one of Feron's contacts reached out to him to set up a meeting, where he revealed he was an agent of the Shadow Broker that had been gathering a dossier on him for a while, and wanted to extend an offer of employment, as the Broker required men of Feron's talents, and were offering better pay and a role as one of the Broker's chief information traffickers. Feron initially turned down the offer, but after a couple of years, he reconsidered his position and reached out to the Broker, defecting to him and leaving Amonkira's Eyes without notice or even informing his employers of his whereabouts. For all intents and purposes, as far as the galaxy was concerned, he had disappeared. While reports were heard in subsequent years of him working for one intelligence agency or another, none were confirmed.
For the next 15 years, Feron continued to work for the Shadow Broker, contracted to buy information from potential clients, monitor targets of interest and gather intelligence on escalating situations in order to ensure the Broker's influence across the galaxy remained absolute. At times Feron would also be used to acquire material on politicians, military officials, other information brokers and corporate tycoons in order to establish blackmail for the purposes of using said official for extracting privileged information, to use as a spy or to keep them in check if they threaten the Broker. Feron ultimately became one of the Broker's most loyal and effective agents in this role, unparalleled in his field, and at times he'd be given command of field teams for larger operations. Feron's loyalty remained absolute right up until late 2183 CE, when Cerberus reached out to Feron attempting to recruit him in their plan to retrieve Commander Shepard's body from Alchera. Feron initially refused to betray the Broker, but things changed when he was tasked by the Broker to recover Commander Shepard's body so that his employer could sell it to the Collectors. Shocked by this sudden change in behavior by the Broker (unaware the real Broker was being kept in the dark, and their yahg assistant was pulling the strings), Feron betrayed the Broker and reached out to Cerberus again, agreeing to a plan to recover Shepard's body as planned, but instead of handing it over to the Broker, he'd give it to Cerberus instead. Whilst the Broker learned of the Cerberus plot to snatch the body however, he was unaware of Feron's involvement in the plan, so he instead contacted a former member of Shepard's squad, Liara T'Soni, to give them a chance to beat the Broker to Shepard's body, whilst simultaneously telling the Broker he believed Liara was recruited by Cerberus to assist in their plan and that he was going to tail her. While Feron did this, the Broker sent his best enforcer, Gukon Tazzik, to recover Shepard's body instead while a small combat team was sent to eliminate Liara when Feron gave the signal. Feron then informed Cerberus of the hit squad that would move in to kill Liara, and they had commands on standby to rescue them, at which Feron would work with Liara, pretending to be a double agent working for the Broker whilst in reality he was a triple agent working for Liara and Cerberus. Through their efforts, Feron helps Liara track down the meeting to Omega and after a staged ambush, plants a tracking chip on Tazzik's ship as he escapes, where they pursue him to one of the Broker's bases on Alingon, where Shepard's body is being held.
With Liara still believing he plans to betray her, a fact the Broker still believes as well, Feron and Liara are able to infiltrate the base with Liara pretending to be captured by Feron. After Liara's brief discussion with the Broker himself over vidcom, where the Broker finally learns of Feron's betrayal, the drell swiftly destroys the base's communications array, stopping the Broker from alerting the base: at the same time, he downloads a mass of information regarding the Broker's more sensitive dealings and activities, handing them over to Liara in an effort to damage the Broker for what he's done, acknowledging that this Broker is no longer the same one he used to work for, or so he believed. Caring for Liara and trusting her, Feron finally reveals that he was a triple agent actually working for Cerberus, greatly angering Liara and breaking whatever trust they were slowly building. Knowing Shepard's body was loaded up on Tazzik's ship, Feron and Liara, still playing their roles, try to make their way towards the ship, but run into Tazzik speaking with a Possessed Collector, both of them shocked the Collectors had arrived so quickly. Tazzik reveals the transaction was complete but before he can say more the Collector, possessed by Harbinger, senses Feron's thoughts and reveals he's a traitor. With every guard on the base alerted, Feron fights off Tazzik as he tells Liara to make a break for Tazzik's ship. Liara fights off the Collector and takes off in Tazzik's ship, leaving Feron to be captured by Tazzik and the Broker's forces. Furious at Feron's betrayal and the loss of Shepard's body to Cerberus, the Broker has Feron brought to the Halcyon, his secret home base, on Hagalaz to be strapped into a chair plugged into his office's primary power network so he can be electrically tortured for the rest of his life as punishment. For the next two years, Feron, who Liara believed was dead, was tortured constantly, with the Broker's assistant's proximity to the room allowing him to visit it discreetly, providing the only times Feron met him face to face. Finally, in November 2185 CE, at the end of a brief conflict where Liara finally used her resources to bring down the Broker once and for all, she accompanied the Normandy Squad in storming the Halcyon, where she was finally able to confirm Feron was alive. After killing the Broker's assistant and the actual Broker abdicating her position, Feron was released from his prison. With Liara becoming the new Broker, Feron chose to return to serving the Broker, helping Liara prepare for the threat of the Reapers and making him the commander of her PMC forces, gathering every possible resource they could find for this goal. In the six months following Liara becoming the Broker and leading up to the Reaper War, Feron and Liara grew close, and eventually ended up in a romantic relationship, although it was mostly over long distance due to his assignments taking him galaxy-wide.
Feron returned to the Halcyon in February 2186 CE, when Cerberus sent a cruiser to Hagalaz to destroy the ship and kill the Broker. Helping Liara gather her equipment to leave, it was Feron's idea to ram the Halcyon into the cruiser to cover their escape. Once Liara was safely embedded at the Mars Archives, Feron returned to managing the Broker's Terminus operations and getting ready for the Reapers. When the Reaper War finally arrived in June 2186 CE, Feron was placed in direct command of their PMC forces, assisting UGC intelligence gathering efforts and special operations across every theater of war Cerberus and the Reapers opened. Feron remained on the move constantly throughout the war but the Broker lost contact with him during Battle of Garvug, when Feron's escape was cut off. He managed to stay alive for weeks, trapped within the city of Dhazil, until he was eventually cornered by husks and mauled to death. Liara wouldn't learn of his death until she investigated after the Reaper War had concluded.
