Exodus is a cluster located towards the western edge of Alliance space, and one of the three main clusters to be colonized by humanity during their first wave of colonization in the 2150s CE. In the asari cycle, the Exodus cluster was targetted by the Asari Republics and Salarian Union for colonization due to its helping of suitable garden worlds, but were prohibited from doing so by the Treaty of Etamis, with Exodus falling within the designated Attican Traverse zone. Luckily for humanity, these levo worlds were practically on Earth's doorstep, and the Systems Alliance very quickly staked their claim on the cluster, as they did with the Arcturus Stream and the rest of the Local Cluster. Exodus became home to two of the Alliance's most well known and economically prosperous colonies, Eden Prime and Terra Nova, and by the last census in 2186 CE, was statistically listed as the most populated cluster in the Systems Alliance outside of the Local cluster.

The Exodus cluster was spared the initial Reaper invasion in 2186 CE, with the Reapers bypassing it in favor of overwhelming Earth first. This allowed Alliance forces an area of withdrawal, and guaranteed them enough time to try an evacuation of the area. The Reapers would eventually invade and conquer Exodus, holding onto it for the rest of the war until their defeat. Post-war, Exodus remains every bit the bread basket of the Systems Coalition, its popularity having not diminished, even in spite of the effects of the Dominion Civil War.
