The Emperor-class heavy cruiser was a classification of cruiser that served in the Navy of Palaven from 1989 CE to 2214 CE. A successor to the Tenax-class, the Emperor-class heavy cruiser was seen as a necessary replacement for the aging Tenax-class, which like its lighter variant, the Senatus-class, had begun to fall short of the Hierarchy's standards and were beginning to fall behind that of the newer asari and salarian cruisers. Needing to maintain their military edge, the Hierarchy's chief shipbuilder, Adeptus Fabrica Qualitas, began working on two new projects, both jointly named the "Tomorrow Cruiser" program, one project being to replace the Senatus-class light cruisers, and the other to replace the Tenax-class heavy cruisers. For the latter, the Emperor-class is what ultimately resulted, a well-armoured and heavily armed juggernaut of a vessel that sported a cheaper and less fuel-intensive set of engines, higher quality armor and shields, a newer MAC gun and several new state-of-the-art close-in weapon systems and anti-ship combat systems. VI multi-tasking was improved thoroughly as well, allowing it to effectively micro-manage 12 million tasks per second in the middle of heated combat. This outclassed the Tenax-class by light years, which Hierarchy prefects and captains alike had criticized was slow, cumbersome and lacking the weapons and capabilities necessary to take on its enemies. The Emperor-class was everything the Turian Navy required from it, and it would be introduced into service just three years after the Century-class, and eventually replaced the Tenax-class entirely by 2019 CE, with the last ship of the latter being retired late that year.

The Emperor-class saw many notable conflicts during its service, including, but not limited to, the Enael conflict, First Contact War, Eden Prime War, War on Taetrus and the Reaper War. The turian navy lost hundreds of the class during the Reaper War however, and due to the massive technological renaissance that occurred galaxy-wide following the war, the Emperor-class was eventually replaced by the much more advanced Requiem-class, which sported better armor, weapons and even more improvements upon those the Emperor-class had enjoyed at its debut. Due to the war's impact on the turian economy and their facilities however, the transition to this new class wasn't as seamless as it normally was for the Hierarchy, and many Emperor-class vessels were still in service by the time of the Post-Apocalyptic War. As such, many Emperor-class heavy cruisers would remain in service, working in tandem with their newer Requiem-class replacements. Over the course of the war, almost all remaining Emperor-class vessels would be lost in combat, with the survivors being destroyed during the Fall of Palaven.
