Dog Squad was a Systems Alliance Marine Corps combat unit attached to the 45th Infantry Company of the 212th Planetary Defense Group and commanded by Sergeant Stephen Banner. The unit was formed along with the rest of the 45th Infantry Company on 13 March 2173 CE from elements of Marine Corps garrisons previously stationed on Sirona, Ferris Fields, Terra Nova, Mars and Shanxi and assigned to Colony Euphoria on Eden Prime as part of the 212th PDG, which was seen as "hell for the unaccomplished" by those who were part of it, largely due to the lack of action and exorbitant amount of free-time marines stationed there had. Dog Squad consisted of 12 marines, and was tasked with supplementing the Eden Prime Colonial Guard in the event of a slaver attack. On 7 June 2183 CE, the commanding officer of the 45th Infantry Company, First Lieutenant Michael Falstaff, gathered the company to assist in providing a security detail for a recently discovered prothean beacon on the planet, with Dog Squad tasked with securing a perimeter until Council authorities could arrive to retrieve the prothean artifact. At the last minute, Dog Squad is redeployed to sweep the northern sector of the colony, with Falstaff requiring a full tactical assessment of the terrain in the event of a foreign attack in an attempt to seize the beacon: in reality, he had read up on one member's file, Gunnery Chief Ashley M. Williams, and did not trust her being near the beacon. While Williams suspected this was the case, she did not question her orders, and willingly followed Banner's, and later Donkey's command when the latter was assigned to spearhead the operation, with Banner remaining behind to coordinate with Falstaff and Major Salvatore Mankins of the 212 themselves.

This action actually saved Dog Squad when, two days after the operation began, Saren Arterius and his geth heretics attacked the colony in a large offensive, taking both the 212 and Colonial Guard completely by surprise. Dog Squad linked up with Able and Charlie squads and attempted to double back to the beacon, where they found the remains of the decimated Bravo Squad. With Banner and the rest of Panther Squad also dead, and a lack of communication from Falstaff and Mankins (as they were also dead), Donkey took command of the 45th Infantry and ordered Able and Charlie to hold the beacon while Dog Squad searched for survivors and attempted to assist the beleagured Colonial Guard. With the situation further deteriorating, and Able and Charlie reporting overwhelming enemy attack, Donkey relinquishes command to Williams, which temporarily raises morale within Dog Squad, allowing for her to order a tactical withdrawal to the beacon, with an element of the squad being detached for reconnaissance. When they reach the beacon, they find the few survivors of Able and Charlie squads being attached to Dragon's Teeth and impaled, with Dog Squad attempting a diversionary action with Donkey and his element hitting the geth's flanks while Ashley and the rest of Dog Squad hit them from behind. This briefly turns the tide, but the geth quickly counterattack, and eighty percent of Dog Squad is killed during their retreat, Donkey among them, with the survivors attempting to escape. In the end, Williams is the last survivor of Dog Squad, and minutes later runs into Commander Marcus L. Shepard and his team, who save her life and allow her to join them. With her assignment to the Normandy Squad, Dog Squad was considered wiped out with the rest of the 45th Infantry.
