Council space was an historical region of the Milky Way Galaxy that consisted of the member systems and states of the Citadel Council, old and new. It encompassed the combined territories of the Asari Republics, Salarian Union and Turian Hierarchy, as well as the minor territories of the Council's other members. Council space started out with asari and salarian territories, but eventually expanded to include most of the known Milky Way galaxy, including elements of what would eventually be the Attican Traverse and Terminus Systems. However, a series of devastating conflicts and rebellions greatly reduced this territory, until the Terminus Revolutions finally established the region's final extent. As such, the subregions known as "Outer" and "Inner" fell out of use, simply recognized unanimously entirely as "Council space". Despite the Systems Alliance joining the galactic community in 2157 CE, and even becoming a Council primary race in 2183 CE, Alliance space never became a part of Council space, remaining separate. When the Batarian Hegemony seceded from the Council in 2177 CE, it too took its territory with it, as little as there was.

Council space retained its previous size even after the rise of the New Council, gaining what was previously geth space, but was placed under enormous stress during the Terminian Cold War from both the Galactic Dominion and Titan Covenant, especially when the former seceded. Council space was completely dissolved as a unique entity following the Post-Apocalyptic War, and absorbed into Dominion space.
