The Citadel Defense Fleet (CDF), also known as the Citadel Fleet, Citadel Naval Force and the Citadel Navy, was the naval service branch of the Citadel Defense Forces, and one of its three uniformed services. Comprised of a single, joint-species fleet, the CDF possessed ships from each of the primary Council races, which are provided to the fleet as a provision of primary Council membership, symbolizing their willingness to fulfill the responsibility of protecting the galaxy. By 2183 CE, it was composed of mostly Hierarchy warships, with a smattering of Union support vessels and ships of the Asari Republics: after the Battle of the Citadel, the Systems Alliance added its own vessels to the fleet. However, following the establishment of the New Council, the CDF was reorganized to incorporate vessels of every Council species' military, which was in line with the general restructuring of the CITDEF in general, causing the organization to resemble the galactic equivalent of NATO. The flagship of the fleet was the ARW Destiny Ascension up until its destruction at the Battle of Sol, where it was subsequently replaced by the THS Dominatum.
The CDF suffered extensive losses during the Battle of the Citadel in 2183 CE, and was nearly obliterated at the Fall of the Citadel during the Reaper War. It was rebuilt following the war, and would go through numerous restructurings afterwards due to the secession of the Systems Coalition and Republic of Rannoch. The CDF's last major engagements were the tri-battles of the Citadel during the Post-Apocalyptic War, where it was brought to complete destruction. It was not reformed after the war, replaced by its Dominion successor, the Dominion First Fleet.
