The Cerberus Army (CA), also referred to as the Cerberus Ground Forces, was the land service branch of the Cerberus Armed Forces, and one of the three dedicated branches of Cerberus' military division. Established in July 2158 CE alongside the Cerberus Navy, the Cerberus Army's duty was to handle the surface-based strike operations of Cerberus, which at the time consisted of small teams of special forces commandos, intelligence operatives and support personnel. Following its creation, the Cerberus Army was initially composed of defecting soldiers and intelligence personnel from both the Alliance and the numerous Earth-based armies who sympathized with the Illusive Man's ideology and beliefs and firmly believed in the Cerberus Manifesto, whether due to personal racist grudges, a belief in humanity's supremacy, a need to protect humanity's interests or due to a need to avenge the First Contact War: regardless of the reasons, a large portion of these defectors would go on to fill the ranks of the Cerberus Army, ranks of which would continue to be padded out in the years following the organization's creation. Before 2165 CE, the Army had more in common with a special operations group such as the STG or asari commandos than it did with a traditional army, but this began to change as the army expanded and the Army was able to greatly extend the scope of its capabilities. In 2165 CE, the Army was given its own separate subcommand, and the special forces activities of the organization were reallocated to a dedicated third branch, with the Army beginning to assume capabilities more in line with a proper army, including armoured and air support battalions and establish permanent garrisons to protect Cerberus' installations and space stations vital to their interests and advancement.
In 2183 CE, Cerberus' shift in attention towards the recently exposed threat of the Reapers also leads to a greater expansion of the Cerberus Armed Forces, with the Army receiving boosted funding, more personnel as a successful recruitment drive produces thousands of fresh recruits, newly developed vehicles and equipment, and more. By 2185 CE, improvements in technology and training had greatly improved the Cerberus Army's combat capabilities, rendering it a largely different beast to the one it had been only two years before. This advancement continued well into 2186 CE, with all members of the Army being outfitted with cybernetic enhancements and implants based on reverse-engineered Reaper technology, effectively creating an army of supersoldiers unwaveringly loyal to the Illusive Man. The Cerberus Army was at the forefront of Cerberus combat operations throughout the Reaper War, and through surprise and superior technology, was able to win sweeping victories throughout the early days of the war. As the war continued however, Cerberus tactics did not keep up, and as the organization began to overstretch itself, the UGC would begin to fight back and defeat the Cerberus Army in several crippling defeats, most famous being the failure of Operation Deathstroke and the loss of Omega. Despite its early dominance, the Cerberus Army began to suffer setback after setback, the most devastating being the loss of the Keyhold laboratories, which had provided the Cerberus Army with a steady supply of fresh troops from its rejected test subjects. The Cerberus Army's final decisive conflict was the defense of Cronos Station, where the Army made its final stand with the rest of Cerberus against the UGC Victory armada. The Cerberus Army continued to fight across numerous theaters across the galaxy, although a majority of the Army fighting on Cronos Station were indoctrinated by the Leviathans and used to fight for the UGC during the Battle of London. Roughly 92% of the Army's remaining forces by war's end were wiped out when the Crucible fired, and the Cerberus Army ceased to exist as a result.
The Cerberus Army saw extensive action during the Collector campaign, First and second wars for Omega and the Reaper War. With the dissolution of Cerberus at the end of the Reaper War, the Cerberus Army was dissolved and what surviving members remained formed numerous Cerberus remnant cells, who were in turn eventually rounded up and crushed by the Systems Coalition in roughly a few years following the conflict.
