The Century-class light cruiser was a classification of cruiser that served in the Navy of Palaven from 1986 CE to 2214 CE. A successor to the Senatus-class, the Century-class light cruiser was the Hierarchy's answer to the concerns that the asari and salarians were beginning to overtake them in the cruiser game, and that the Senatus-class, which had been operating in the turian navy for centuries, was woefully obsolete and needed to be replaced: the Century-class was not only superior to their asari and salarian equivalents, but it also proved to be a huge improvement over the Senatus-class, which had always suffered from a high maintenance cost due to its expensive drive core. The Century-class also sported improved armor, maneveurability, cheaper maintenance due to a more improved and modern drive core design, and a slimmer profile to make it harder to hit in space combat. As was typical of turian ship design, the Century-class also sported the trademark "winged predator" design that made it a fearsome and intimidating sight on any battlefield, and ontop of that, it was also now capable of being deployed in a more multi-role fashion, outside of the strictly escort-role that the Senatus-class, and other turian light cruisers before it, had endured through in the past. Overall, the Century-class quickly replaced the Senatus-class across the entire turian navy with their trademark efficiency, totally phasing out its predecessor within a year of its introduction. The Century-class would also replace the aging Senatus-class ships that had been in service with the CDF as well, replacing them entirely by 1990 CE.
The Century-class saw many notable conflicts during its service, including, but not limited to, the Enael conflict, First Contact War, Eden Prime War, War on Taetrus and the Reaper War. The turian navy lost hundreds of the class during the Reaper War however, and due to the massive technological renaissance that occurred galaxy-wide following the war, the Century-class was eventually replaced by the more advanced Predator-class, which sported better armor, weapons and a newer drive core. Due to the war's impact on the turian economy and their facilities however, the transition to this new class wasn't as seamless as it normally was for the Hierarchy, and many Century-class vessels were still in service by the time of the Post-Apocalyptic War. As such, many Century-class light cruisers would remain in service, working in tandem with their newer Predator-class replacements. Over the course of the war, almost all remaining Century-class vessels would be lost in combat, with the survivors being destroyed during the Fall of Palaven.
