Biotic Amp
From FABT
A Biotic Amplifier, usually shortened to Biotic Amp or Bio-Amp, are cybernetic implants for organics designed to regulate and remove biotic instability within individuals capable of biotics, serving to augment their abilities and allow the user greater personal control over them. Invented by the asari in 336 CE, the biotic amp was built to allow non-asari biotics to reach their full potential and utilize their biotic abilities: asari did not require biotic amps as their homeworld was rich in element zero, meaning their bodies evolved with the element zero nodules already connected and fully realized. This was not the case for other species, and as asari realized certain species had the potential to utilize biotics, they eventually invented a cybernetic implant capable of harmonizing the element zero nodules within an exposed individual, granting its user the ability to harness their powers. Amps are surgically implanted at the base of the user's skull, essentially "hooked up" to the brain so that utilizing biotics merely requires the user to "think" about using them.
As the design was perfected, later biotic amp designs allowed for upgrades to be "plugged" into the amp through further surgical procedure, either improving biotic power or helping to stabilize the biotics of an individual whose element zero nodules had not actualized properly. Asari artisans are considered the finest biotic amp crafters in the galaxy due to their natural affinity for biotics, although many other races in the galaxy have also manufactured their own biotic amps, each specialized and adapted for use by their specific races and unique physiology, with one of the biggest being the L-series of the Systems Alliance.
