- "That fool Joyrloc thought he'd sabotage everything I've built here. He didn't realize that my allies understand my vision. He thought he'd rally them, and when the time came, they turned on him. His coup was about as much of a threat to me as Wreav's fart in the wind."
- — Urdnot Wrex casually describing how he crushed Joyrloc's failed uprising to Tali'Zorah in 2184 CE, mere hours after it had concluded.
The Battle of Urdnot Keep, also known as Joyrloc's Uprising, was a battle that erupted within Urdnot Keep as a result of Clan Joyrloc, a mole for the Tuchankan Traditionalists, staging a coup attempt against Clan Urdnot that occurred during Wrex's War. In the lead up to the uprising, Urdnot Wrex had returned to Tuchanka after six centuries of self-imposed exile, taking control over his clan and beginning a campaign to unify the entire planet under the new krogan nation-state that he called the United Krogan Clans: this campaign involved adopting a modified version of the ideology of Khoxxism, which pitted him as an ideological adversary of the Tuchankan Traditionalists, whose power had waned somewhat ever since Urdnot declared neutrality following the aftermath of Jarrod's War in 1572 CE. Despite Traditionalist attempts to resist the UKC's advances however, Wrex's leadership proved extremely effective in unifying the disparate factions of the planet, and began rallying more and more support to their banner, including defecting Traditionalist clans: while they were able to win a handful of victories, these only delayed Wrex's gains, and these defeats would be made up for in subsequent campaigns. When direct force proved insufficient, the Traditionalists attempted to infiltrate the UKC to dismantle it from within, having certain clans feign a surrender in order to get into the UKC in order to sabotage it or, in the case of Clan Gatatog and Clan Joyrloc, get close enough to eliminate Wrex himself. These plans too were doomed to failure, as, of the six clans volunteering to the plan, only two, Gatatog and Joyrloc, remained committed, with the other four actually growing to believe and accept Wrex's ideology, becoming committed to his cause. When Gatatog was defeated and their home region of Piryloc was annexed by the UKC, Clan Joyrloc, led by their chieftain Joyrloc Stroyase, saw their opportunity to strike and coordinated with Gatatog Uvenk to stage a coup within Urdnot Keep, coordinating with the other four Traditionalist clans annexed by the UKC (Clan Borgon, Clan Strak, Clan Pedak and Clan Xercik) in order to bring about the revolt, hoping that their actions would rally other UKC clans under Wrex's banner to join them in overthrowing the tyrannical krogan warlord. With their warriors allowed free reign of the camp by Wrex, Joyrloc waited for his men to be in position before making his move, with Stroyase positioning most of his warriors close to Wrex so he could be assassinated quickly. Stroyase was also hoping that Urdnot Wreav, having been humiliated by Wrex when his brother took over, would denounce his brother when the time came, and Traditionalist elements remaining in Urdnot would also defect.
The plan was ambitious, but as became a major problem for the Traditionalists, intelligence had failed them and their assessment of the political situation in the UKC were grossly inaccurate. Firstly, the four Traditionalist clans he wanted to coordinate with had fully accepted the Reformist beliefs, and thus informed Wrex of the plan a few days ahead of the attack's scheduled date. Wrex, despite now possessing advanced knowledge of the attack, did not tighten security or attempt to deal with Joyrloc pre-emptively, not wanting to give the Traditionalists ammunition to use against him by being seen to attack a recently surrendered clan without provocation, and trusting that his allies would help his men put down the uprising, allowing Joyrloc to believe had the upperhand. Wrex also coordinated with Gatatog to secure his neutrality in the coming attack and Uvenk, seeing that Wrex would crush the rebellion and it was doomed to failure, agreed to stay out of it, but did not warn Joyrloc. Wreav had no intention of betraying his brother, regardless of his perceived humiliation, as his fear of his brother kept his pride in check. All of these factors proved that Clan Joyrloc was unwittingly walking into a trap, and when the day finally arrived on 16 May 2184 CE, the coup finally began. Stroyase, leading ten of his best men, seized control of the armoury and garage in short order, while his men positioned around the camp roused the camp to rebel, crying out for them to kill Urdnot Wrex and restore the krogan to greatness: at the same time, twelve krogan warriors made their move on Wrex while Uvenk and Wreav were present. The attack fell apart when the clans raised their weapons and mowed down the Joyrloc troops in the camp, with nobody joining to save them. Uvenk stepped aside and did not intervene, while Wreav and Wrex attacked the warriors sent to kill kim, with Urdnot and Nakmor troops appearing from behind to cut off their escape. With the initial uprising dealt with, Wrex lead his combined force of Urdnot, Nakmor, Borgon, Strak and Xercik troops to the armoury and garage and subsequently retook them after only a few minutes, with Stroyase killed in the fighting. Following the disastrous defeat, Clan Joyrloc was declared uraysh, and the clan was completely wiped out.
