"My enemies know who I am. I know who my enemies are. Sun Tzu said this mutual understanding is the first step towards victory. I've known my enemy for many years, and I have never known defeat. Know that today is not my defeat. Defeat implies I've failed to meet my objectives, to achieve what I want. This is what I want. A death with meaning. A death where my enemy and I are joined."
— Awarnach Stanford's last words, mere moments before the destruction of the Ming system.

Fleet Admiral Awarnach Stanford, known by reputation as the Star Rabbit, was a captain in the Systems Alliance Navy, an admiral of the Systems Coalition Navy, and the former commanding officer of the Coalition First Fleet and Dominion Eleventh Fleet. Born in the city of Tel Aviv in Israel on Earth, Stanford joined the Systems Alliance Navy when he was 18, and was a lieutenant serving on the frigate SSV Bannockburn at the beginning of the Eden Prime War, attached to the Fifth Fleet under Admiral Steven Hackett. His ship was disabled by geth weapons fire at the Battle of Armstrong, but his quick thinking and knowledge of naval tactics allowed him to outsmart the geth cruiser firing at his ship, leading to its eventual destruction. Stanford's clever use of strategy to overcome a ship of greater tonnage and firepower saw him promoted to lieutenant commander, where he was transferred to the cruiser Ashdod. In this role he would be present at the Battle of the Citadel, where his knowledge at Armstrong helped him in once again saving his ship, this time during battle with Sovereign.

After the war, Stanford was granted a field promotion to captain of the Ashdod during a pirate attempt to hijack the cruiser during the Alliance's counter-piracy operations of 2184 CE. The captain was killed during the hijacking, but Stanford successfully fooled the pirates into believing the ship had been taken, causing the pirate vessel to dock with the ship. Stanford then launched a counter-hijacking, leading a squad of marines onto the enemy ship, and successfully securing it. For his valor in combat, Stanford was reassigned to the Eighth Fleet under Admiral Duncan Ward, and given command of another cruiser, Mogadishu. He was present for the Battle of Ontarom in the opening stages of the Reaper War, where the majority of the Eighth Fleet was ambushed and destroyed. The Mogadishu escaped the battle with the remnants of the Eighth Fleet, and Stanford would command it on numerous missions throughout the Reaper War, earning the rank of rear admiral along the way, and was present at the battles of Anadius and Sol as well. After the Reaper War, Stanford was recognized for his heroics and excellent service, and promoted to Fleet Admiral, and given command of the First Fleet: by this time, the Alliance had now become the Coalition. He was noted for using ruthless 'shock and awe' tactics with the First Fleet during the Border War, where he was commented by Hackett as "using his fleet as a blunt instrument". He earned further renown in the Post-Apocalyptic War, and following the conflict would transfer to his new flagship, the superdreadnought Pandorica, and would be elected to join the Galactic Dominion Security Council. Six years later, he became Fleet Admiral of the entire Coalition navy, and would assume command of the Dominion's Eleventh Fleet.

Upon the outbreak of the Dominion Civil War, Stanford's loyalty remained with the Dominion. His unconventional tactics and strategic improvisational capabilities made him a key target for DDF forces to recruit, but he refused on multiple occasions, including a personal conversation over QEC with Lord Admiral Shepard himself. When it became clear Stanford refused to help the DDF, Shepard moved to name him a target of extreme threat, and that any sightings of him were to be followed with strict 'terminate with extreme prejudice' actions. Stanford took the remnants of the Eleventh Fleet that remained loyal to him and the Dominion and quickly left port, even refusing to inform his own superiors as to the nature of his whereabouts out of fear it would allow the DDF to track him down. His fleet led the DDF on a goose chase around the galaxy, although he was eventually forced into the open when critical Dominion facilities were attacked, allowing the DDF to whittle down his fleet. By the time the civil war ended, the remainder of Stanford's fleet surrendered. Stanford remained defiant however, and refused to serve under the UGR. The UGR assembled a fleet of ships, with a dozen more offered by the Republic of Virmire, and Stanford was finally tracked down to the Ming system in the Gemini Sigma cluster. At first it seemed as though Stanford would make a last stand, but he instead fired upon the flagship of the task force, enticing them into chasing his vessel. Hacking into their communications, Stanford's final last words were recorded by the ships of the fleet, which was then distributed back to Earth, the then-capital of the UGR. Stanford, having completed his trap, then FTL'd into Ming's star, the resulting impact, combined with the dozens of thermonuclear weapons and antimatter warheads Stanford had stolen from the Dominion prior to its collapse and stored on his ship for this very moment, caused Ming to supernova. The Ming system was destroyed as a result, the explosion wiping out the entire UGR fleet and resulting in a calculated loss of 19,000 total deaths.
