The Armed Forces of Palaven and its Colonies (AFPC), also known as the Hierarchy Armed Forces and Turian Armed Forces, was the military component of the Turian Hierarchy responsible for the defense and preservation of the Hierarchy, and after the Hierarchy joined the Citadel Council in 764 CE, the main peacekeeping apparatus utilized for the maintenance of law and order in the galaxy, as well as the enforcement of Council laws and serving as the most powerful martial force in all of Citadel space. It consisted of six branches: the Army of Palaven, Navy of Palaven, Marine Corps of Palaven, Imperial Colonial Guard, Cixtemper Century and Olymcius Forces. Under the direct command of the Commune of the Armed Forces, the Turian Armed Forces combined the individual power of their six branches to enforce the Hierarchy's foreign policy objectives, whether that be through offensive warfare or martial peacekeeping: while also the largest and most powerful military in the Milky Way for its time, it was also the most professional and disciplined, with turian doctrine encompassing selflessness, personal sacrifice and self-discipline to those within the services, creating a professional military unlike any other in the galaxy. Military service was mandatory for all turian citizens at the age of 15, giving the Armed Forces nearly unlimited reserve forces it can tap into, and virtually rendering every turian capable of martial service at a moment's notice. Formed from the remnants of its predecessor, Palaven's Imperial Armed Forces, Primarch Posion's military reforms that had reshaped the PIAF into a more formidable military force worthy of an empire had paved the way for the indomitable forces that the Armed Forces of Palaven would become, single-handedly founding a martial power worthy of the empire it defended and helped create.

The Armed Forces fought in numerous major conflicts, most notable of which was its first major war (as well as its first conflict with an alien species), the Krogan Rebellions, where the Armed Forces helped to bring the seemingly invincible Tuchankan Empire to total defeat. The Armed Forces fought many more conflicts afterwards, some of them against separatist rebellions within the Hierarchy's own borders, and but its success rate was unparalleled. The First Contact War in 2157 CE was the first time the Turian Armed Forces suffered even the slightest tactical drawback in a conflict, and even that conflict had ended in a stalemate thanks to the timely intervention of the asari. The Armed Forces later fought in the Reaper War, where they were significantly weakened and, while still powerful afterwards, they never recovered their full strength. The Armed Forces performed well during the Post-Apocalyptic War, and despite being close to victory, the tide finally turned against them, and the Armed Forces surrendered after the Fall of Palaven on 8 June 2214 CE, and were dissolved subsequently afterwards. The turian military wouldn't be restored until 2253 CE after the Dominion Civil War, where it was restored as the New Palaven Armed Forces.
