The Archangel-class battleship was a classification of battleship that served in the Systems Coalition Navy and Rannoch Republican Navy from 2227 CE to 2283 CE, in the Unified Galactic Navy from 2253 CE to 2283 CE, and in the Virminian Navy from 2254 CE to 2490 CE. Built as part of the Dominion Strategic and Tactical Arms Exchange after the Post-Apocalyptic War, an agreement reached between the Systems Coalition Navy and Rannoch Republican Navy to each produce specialized ship classes that would be used by both navies, with the Archangel-class battleship designed by Coalition and Republic shipbuilders and a total of 40 would be ordered, although this order would be scaled back to 35 by 2221 CE, and finally 30 by 2225 CE largely due to supply shortages caused by mega-scale projects such as the Pandorica-class and Transcendence-class programs, as well as the incredibly expensive Project Requiem. In 2227 CE, when the class officially entered service, 12 Archangel-class battleships were commissioned, with 5 purchased by the Rannochian Navy and the rest by the Coalition, with 4 in total being assigned to the Maginot Armada, most famous being the Blood Horizon which served as the flagship of the Maginot Armada and was commanded by Imperial Admiral Xerxes. The Moondancer, Queensland and Ishikawa, the other 3 Archangel-class ships assigned to the Maginot Armada, were placed in task groups across the Maginot Line, largely held in reserve unless needed for operations that required heavy firepower. By 2235 CE, 26 of these ships were in service, and by 2240 CE the remaining 4 were finally commissioned, delayed due to refits and improvements made to the Archangel-class design. 6 of the new ships were assigned to the Maginot Armada, with 15 serving in the Rannoch Republican Navy and the other 15 in the Coalition Navy, serving alongside the latter's Colorado II-class battleship.

The Archangel-class boasted a powerful defensive arsenal, with thousands of cluster missiles, ten plasma turrets, hundreds of plasma torpedoes, 4 bow-mounted MAC guns, 64 point defense guns and 1 ventral-mounted Earthsplitter energy projector: along with this powerful arsenal, the battleship possessed a single hangar in its stern for the deployment of gunships and dropships, and had powerful energy shields and thick armoured hull plating. Its top speed allowed it to outrun a Colorado II-class and capable of outmaneuvering most light cruisers and destroyers due to its powerful reactor complex. This made the Archangel-class not only very powerful, but also more nimble than other battleships, and while this technically made it a fast battleship, its speed could not be consistently maintained, and was largely only utilized in short bursts during combat situations. The ship's energy projector also allowed it to participate in more accurate bombardment from high orbit, although it also had limited application in naval combat as was demonstrated during the Battle of the Asteroids. Many Archangel-class ships would fall into DDF hands during the Dominion Civil War, with the Second Battle of Jupiter seeing the first instance of a Dominion-controlled Archangel-class, the CSV Aquitaine, engaging one of its DDF-controlled sister ships, with the Dominion-controlled ship proving victorious. By the end of the civil war, fourteen Archangel-class ships would be destroyed or crippled, with twelve damaged or captured.

After the war and the collapse of the Galactic Dominion, only 21 ships would remain in service, and only 16 of those would remain in service with the Unified Galactic Navy, with two being sold to the Virminian Republic, the third stolen and used as a capital ship by Bucephalus where it was destroyed during the Bucephalus Uprising, and the fourth and fifth destroyed by Covenant remnant forces at their docks whilst undergoing refits over Rannoch during the Bombing of Koris Shipyards in 2256 CE. All the ships still serving in the UGN were all eventually decommissioned by 2283 CE, where they were succeeded by the Victoria-class, with the two still in service with the Virminian Navy surviving until 2490 CE, where they were decomissioned and replaced by Victoria-class battleships purchased from the UGN. 14 of the UGN ships would be scrapped, with two being purchased by the Virminian Navy and remaining in service until 2490 CE, and the last, the Somerset, being taken to Australia to be permanently docked in the Northern Australia forty kilometers outside of Darwin as a national historical landmark, stripped of its weapons and technology and kept as a tourist destination.

The class was named after Garrus Vakarian, specifically his pseudonym "Archangel" during his two year war against crime on Omega from 2183 CE to 2185 CE.
