Aralakh is a star system located in the Althak Vepar cluster, and is the home system of the krogan species. Contained within the system is the homeworld of the krogan race, Tuchanka, and the system was the centerpiece of krogan early attempts to explore space. During the prothean cycle, the Prothean Empire established a research and observation facility in the gas giant Vaul to watch over and run scientific observations on the ancient krogan, where they considered the possibility of uplifting them; however, the Reapers invaded before they could. The Reapers briefly swept through the Aralakh system before leaving, adhering to their rules of not exterminating pre-spaceflight civilizations. Close to fifty thousand years later, the Western Empire of Dedklok came the closest to launching a manned mission to Kruban, and wanted to do so in order to beat their rivals in the Republic of Trisek'lok, who had launched the mission that put the first krogan in space. The Dedklokians had been close to launching the mission, but by the time it was ready in 1259 BCE, Tuchanka was plunged into a nuclear war that set back krogan society several hundred years and doused it in over a thousand years of nuclear winter, and it wouldn't be until the salarians uplifted them in 41 CE that the krogan left their homeworld and gained an interstellar foothold. Finally, the krogan established dominance over Aralakh, establishing the Tuchankan Empire in 44 CE.

The Aralakh system was not directly invaded by the Reapers during the Reaper War in 2186 CE, the latter of which simply sent small skirmish forces onto Tuchanka to keep the krogan clans from uniting, although this proved a futile effort thanks to Marcus L. Shepard. After the war, the United Krogan Clans would form the Tuchankan Military Confederacy, and despite being involved in two major conflicts, Aralakh would not see major conflict itself for the rest of its time under krogan occupation.
